Internet Healthcare

                                                              Internet Healthcare
Introduction
There are very many internet sites which provide information related to healthcare; whereby some are genuine while others provide misleading information. Therefore, people should be cautioned against relying entirely on all the information they obtain from the internet sites.
Internet sites which offer legitimate health related information
These websites provide information based on research and consultation of highly qualified personnel in the medical sector. Therefore, the information provided is based on facts about the human body hence being reliable in ensuring a good health. They include; www.webmd.com, www.healthcentral.com, www.wrongdiagnosis.com, www.drkoop.com, and www.answermed.com.
Internet sites which offer questionable health related information
There are other sites which provide unreliable information due to lack of proper research methods or dependency on unreliable sources for information. This results to provision of misleading information which affects many people who access them for consultation. These sites include; www.curezone.com, www.garynull.com, www.mercola.com, www.drclark.com, and www.orthomed.com.

How to analyze internet information to ascertain its value and reliability
The APN could have helped the family to analyze the information by determining the qualification of the people who conducted the research in order to provide the information. He should have advised the family to be keen when reading internet information to avoid being misled by unqualified researchers (Golanty, 2004).
Advantages and Disadvantages of discussion boards and support groups on internet
Advantages
1.      They help people to seek guidance online about various matters affecting them.
2.      They act as a social interface hence enabling many people to interact with one another.
3.      They provide different ways of solving problems due to availability of many opinions from different people.
Disadvantages
1.      They may provide misleading information since they are used by many different people.
2.      They can be used maliciously to propagate ill speeches against other internet users.
How to improve the quality of information found on internet
The APN can improve the quality of the information found on internet through stating the facts about the vaccines which the family was debating on. By listening to their claims, he was able to identify the facts and misconceptions which they had concerning the healthcare matter. Therefore, he should have advised them by giving examples from various researches which have been conducted on the vaccines (Mayo Clinic, 1990).

Employee Benefits

Employee Benefits at HealthCo
HealthCo is a nonprofit health care organization which involves many units including; clinics, rehabilitation units, hospice, therapy facilities among other specialized centers. It has got many workers which to attend to clients in each department. However, the organization is more focused on the performance by each employee than their welfare. Some of key leaders in the organization tend to manipulate the other workers to emulate their tendency of over-working in order improve the status of the organization. Below is a discussion of how to deal with some issues in HealthCo organization;
1.                  How to conduct a diagnosis of the situation at HealthCo
The management committee of the HealthCo organization should be advised to set standard goals for each department. This can be achieved through negotiating with the workers in order to make sure that they are comfortable with the working conditions. All workers should be allowed to present their claims concerning the challenges they face while at work (Salisbury, 2010).
The leaders should also introduce better ways to ensure that workers perform well in their duties rather than comparing their level of performance. These ways may include; giving awards to the best team of the year or awarding sponsorships to the best performing teams to attend various seminars concerning their job. These initiatives will improve the performance of the employees since they will be making effort to win the awards. Moreover, they will be motivated to work hard since their welfare will be being taken care of.
The organization should also train more workers to gain adequate expertise in various departments in order to avoid getting stranded when some workers go on leave. It should ensure that all workers can be held responsible to represent the organization in various meetings concerning their departments. This will ensure that the organization’s activities are run normally even in absence of some employees.
There should also be fair treatment to all employees regarding their daily challenges (Haigh, 2001). This is because discriminating some workers will make them to start having negative attitude towards their work and even their employers. However, the policy of the organization concerning the new employees should not be violated on the basis of offering fair treatment to all workers. For instance, in order to start enjoying some benefits, an employee may be required to serve the organization for a certain period of time.
The organization should not force workers to resume duties during their free time. Each employee should be given a chance to decide whether to work during his free time or not. If an employee confesses that he or she has some other duties to attend to during the free time, this should not create enmity between the employee and the employers (Adair, 2000).
2.                  Diagnosis of the situation in the scenarios and the case
In the first scenario, Pat should not have been angry with Chris because he declined to make the trip to New York. Chris gave genuine reasons as to why he was unable to make the trip. He could not have left his elderly parents and his young daughter on their own in order to attend the trip. Pat should have communicated with Chris early enough in order to give him ample time to find someone to take care of his family during the time he would be attending the trip. He should have given him the chance to decide whether to attend or not instead of trying to blackmail him through praises. The problem in this scenario can be avoid by ensuring that the there are several workers with adequate expertise in the various departments rather than depending on one person.
In the second scenario, Francis understands that workers should be given time to attend to their personal issues. When Blair decided to take some days off get his father settled, Francis allowed and thanked him for the good work he had been doing though he knew that the organization needed his help very much. This made Blair to feel that he was working for the best organization. Therefore, leaders in each department should relate well with the other employees and assist them in making some decisions concerning their work. This makes them to work willingly and communicate freely the issues affecting their work with their leaders. A good relationship between all parties in the organization will lead to improvement in performance of each employee.
In the third scenario, since Robin presents a case which goes against the policy of the organization, it becomes hard for Mercer to make a quick decision. The organization should be committed to ensuring fair treatment to all employees. If Robin is allowed to be working part-time while other employees work fulltime, the organization will be going against its policy. However, if he is denied the opportunity, the organization will lose important expertise since he is willing to quit job and look for other organizations which will grant him the chance to work part-time. Moreover, through working with the medical students, Robin would make the HealthCo to attract top students to the organization hence improving its performance.
The HR should accept the Robin’s request since he will continue working for the organization within the specified duration.
Leaders should set a good example for the employees to follow but not to force them to work over-time as they do. The needs of the employees should be considered while making the possible decisions promote the status of the organization (Adair, 2000).
3.                    The key issues in the HealthCo becoming a top company in terms of work-life benefits
The organization should consider offering important benefits to the employees such as extended leave payment, referral services, concierge services, and provide fitness facilities for the workers. Promoting good health for the workers will ensure quality performance in their duties hence improving the overall activities of the organization. Offering concierge services like dry cleaning will help the workers to save the time and money they would have spend in taking the clothes to dry cleaners out of their work place. This might make some of the workers to spend the time in doing work in their departments hence promoting the activities of the organization.
Employees should also be relieved from being overworked by employing more workers in various departments (Bhadra, 2005). This will make them to start working in shifts hence having adequate time to rest before resuming working. The organization should also award sponsorships to their employees to attend to various seminars concerning their job in order to enable them to gain adequate expertise. This will help the organization to avoid forcing some workers to resume duties during the free time.
In order to ensure smooth running of all activities at HealthCo, there should be good relationship between the employees and the leaders. Employees should be allowed important benefits during their working days and even after retirement. This ensures that all workers are comfortable with their working conditions hence being motivated to work hard (Bhadra, 2005).

Witch-hunt

Part I: Essay Outline
Introduction
It specifies the approach of the essay, which is the influence of ministers and other religious elites, according to McDonald.
Body
This part contains three main points and explanation of different events which took place between 1638 and 1651. The points also show the importance of religious influence during trials of the witches. These points include;
  1. Aspect of Gender in Witchcraft
It supports the fact that most of the people who were subject to witch trials were females. It also provides examples to support that argument.
  1. Punishment of Victims
It provides the main disciplinary actions which taken against those who were found guilty. It also specifies the individuals who were involved in stating the disciplinary measures to be taken against the victims.
  1. Effects of witchcraft to people’s culture
This point shows how involvement in witchcraft affected culture and how the religious elites considered it to be an evil practice. It gives some examples of statements which were made to condemn the act.

Conclusion
It summarizes the ideas contained in the essay and shows the perspective of the writer concerning the events which took place and how religion participated in curbing the vice.
Reference
It contains the sources cited in the essay and direct quotes from one of the sources.
Part II: Short Essay
Witch-hunt and popular culture
The religious elites condemned witchcraft terming it to be an evil practice which was done by the worshippers of the devil, and they were closely engaged in trials of the suspects of the vice.
Below are some of the aspects concerning the witch-hunts;
1.      Aspect of gender in witchcraft
Most of the victims who were subjected to witch trials were females. This is according to a research which was conducted in North America in the 15th century which showed that about 75% of those who were subjected to the trials were women. During this period women were seen to be more sinful than men. Many people who condemned the vice also condemned women for their involvement in practicing it. For instance, Kramer and Sprenger said that women were the main causes of evil and temptations which led to punishment by God. They engaged in the vice due to lack of adequate good jobs for women which forced them to consider being witch doctors and engage in other superstitious activities to earn a living.
2.      Punishment of victims
Religious leaders continued condemning witchcraft and relating it to worshipping of Satan which led to those who practiced it being seeing as rejects in the society. They were blamed of using sorcery to interfere with development of the society. This caused those who were suspected to be practicing the vice to be presented for trials whereby if they were found guilty, disciplinary measures were taken on them. Mostly, those who were found guilty were strangled to death or chained for life on the oars of ships. There were different methods which were used in different countries to punish the culprits. For instance, in some countries such as England the victims were hanged and their bodies burned while in France they were burned alive.
3.      Effects of Witchcraft on culture
This vice affected most of the traditional practices significantly since many people feared to be associated with witchcraft. Religious leaders influenced many people to stop the traditional practices which led to erosion of the traditional culture. This led to decrease in the number of healers and midwives which led many people to have different opinions about the act. For instance, Diane Purkiss argued that most women used herbal medicine as a process of practicing their household skills hence there were no enough evidence to relate midwives and herbalists with the vice. Nicholas Remy, who was a judge, argued that it was unreasonable to associate witchcraft with feminism.
During 1630 the witch-hunt in Scotland was very high and between 1661 and 1662 it experienced the highest witch-hunt which led to death of many witches by being burned. Many judges intervened to rescue mostly females, who were the main suspects of witchcraft, from being put to death.
Conclusion
Witchcraft was highly condemned by religious leaders including the Pope and all efforts were made to eliminate sorcerers from the society. Orders were made by the top officials to put to death all those who were found guilty after trials which scared a lot of people and led to abandoning of some traditional cultures. It also provided an opportunity for religious leaders to convert many people to their religion since they were avoiding being suspected to be witches.[1]

1.Ginn. The National Convention. Boston : Nation press , 1906.
Unit 10 of “The National Convention” shows the powers held by different authorities and the measures which were taken to curb the vice. “… representatives of the sovereign people: task which devolves upon you demands, the power and wisdom of the gods themselves.”
The leaders had a lot of powers which they used to declare harsh judgements on culprits whereby some decisions made were oppressive to the victims.”… assuredly no one of us would propose to retain in France the fatal races for kings; we all know but too well that dynasties have never been anything thing else than rapacious tribes who lived on nothing, buh human flesh. It is necessary completely to reassure the friends of liberty. We must destroy this talisman whose magic power is still sufficient to stupefy many a man.”
This source brings out the judgement process and shows the kind of disciplinar measures which were taken on culprits. It is evident that ones an order was made by the top leaders it had to be followed without questioning.

Drugs

Drugs and Alcohol, and their Effects to Human Body System
Drug refers to any chemical substance that alters the functioning of the body systems when taken. Therefore, prescription of drugs should only be recommended by qualified people who have adequate knowledge about their ingredients and also their effects to the human body. However, drugs can be abused through being used for other purposes rather than their medicinal uses. For instance, a person may take an overdose of a certain drug in order to relieve his or her body from stress. Drug abuse causes adverse effects to the body which may either be long-term or short-term effects.
Alcohol is one of the drugs which are commonly abused because it is legal in many nations. Mainly, people abuse alcohol either to get relieved from stress or during celebrations. It results to side effects which include; nausea, loss of memory, blindness, insomnia and fatigue, sexual impotence among other effects. Most of the drugs which are common abused are highly addictive hence it becomes very hard for one to stop taking them. This causes the health of the body to deteriorate which may lead to death.
Many institutions have established rehabilitation centers to help drug addicts to stop their bad habits and participate in development projects within their community. This has also led to decrease in crime rates in the society since most of the crimes are committed by drug addicts. It has also led to establishment of development projects due to the adequate labor provided by the youths who were initially drug traffickers.
Abuse of drugs is largely condemned in the society and also seen to be against required the moral values. Therefore, drug addicts are rejected by the other members of the society which makes them to feel that they are not important and that the society does not appreciate their actions.
Effects of Drugs and Alcohol to Human Body System
Kidney Disease
This is caused by overworking of the kidney to detoxify the body from the high amount of alcohol ingested. It results to wearing out of the kidney which leads to failure in its functions. Therefore, it becomes necessary to have another mechanism which will help the body in detoxification of harmful substances. At this stage, a dialysis is done to clean the toxins from the body in order to support life.
Heart Disease
High toxin levels from drugs affect the heart’s electrical system which hinders it from the normal pumping of blood. These toxins alter the heart’s normal electrical pattern hence affecting its muscles which makes it unable to maintain a steady rhythm during the pumping process. A failure of the heart results to low blood supply to some parts of the body such as the head which may lead to death of brain cells due to inadequate supply of oxygen. This situation may cause stroke to the person or loss of function to some parts of the body if proper treatment is not given. Other drugs such as cocaine increases the heartbeat beat rate above the normal range which leads to overworking of the heart hence causing it to malfunction.
Liver Disease
The liver performs many functions in the body including detoxification of harmful substances. Therefore, high intake of drugs increases the toxin levels in the body hence making the liver to get overworked. This is because of the need to get rid of the toxins from the body while performing other functions such as regulation of body temperature and helping in production of blood cells. The liver becomes unhealthy due to constantly being overworked to protect the body from the harmful effects caused by these toxins.
Viral Diseases
Many drug addicts become careless about their health hence they end up contracting infectious diseases from one another. Some people may share needles with their peers to inject drugs into to their bloodstreams hence risking contracting diseases. The highly contracted diseases according to PA DUI Association include; HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, and Malaria. There are also other illnesses which may affect drug addicts such as Tuberculosis or even pneumonia due to living in unhealthy conditions. In some cases, drug addicts live together irrespectively of their gender which may result to unprotected sex hence causing transmission of Sexually Transmitted Infections.
Brain Damage
Drug abuse interferes with the chemical composition in the brain hence impairing its communication with other body systems. The failure of the key organs in the body such as the heart also results to death of brain cells hence affecting its functioning. This is seen through signs such as abrupt change of moods, confusions or paranoia. If the brain is largely affected it may result to madness or even death of the victim.
Carelessness of the drugs addicts makes them to ignore advices from other people about the dangers they are exposed to. This makes them unwilling to visit health centers for consultation hence their heath continues to deteriorate until they die.

Impaired Judgment
This is the inability of a person to make sound decisions due to influence of drugs and alcohol. It becomes hard for one to think about the consequences which may result due some decisions he or she makes. For instance, a drug addict may choose to steal in order to get money for buying drugs without considering the possible dangers such as mob justice or being arrested by the law enforcers. Drugs also make one unable to know the exact shape, size or color of objects hence he or she is prone to mistakes while handling them. It also becomes hard for people, under the influence of drugs, to see far objects or even determine correctly the distance of various objects from them. This may lead to accidents when driving while drunk or even when crossing busy roads. A drunkard will face difficulties in knowing the approximate distance between his or her vehicle and the other vehicles on the same lane hence may end up causing accidents.
Some drugs affect the communication of the brain and other body systems by changing their electrical pattern. This causes uncoordinated contractions of muscles of the body which makes the victim to become unstable. Therefore, accidents are likely to occur when handling sharp objects.
Schizophrenia
Though there are other causes of schizophrenia, drug abuse is a major cause of the disease. Schizophrenia is a disorder which makes the victims unable to distinguish between real and imagined experiences. It is characterized by symptoms such as bad behavior and social crimes. The victim is likely to have hallucinations, delusions, confusion while giving speech, catatonia, and also bad behavior. People with this disorder become threats to the society since they have to be monitored keenly to make sure that they do not harm other people or even themselves. This disorder may cause other mental complications hence making the health of the victim to be worse. During diagnosis of the disorder, professionals examine the patient fully to make sure that there is no other mental illness which might have resulted due to the disease. Since it may be caused by psychological factors or environmental factors, doctors gather important information from the parents and peers of the patients to determine the possible cause.
Neurotoxicity
This is the impairment of the nervous system due to exposure of the body to toxic chemicals. Drug addicts are prone to this disorder because of the toxins contained in the drugs they abuse, and also due to unhealthy living conditions. For instance, many drug addicts lack permanent houses due to fear of being arrested by the law enforcers hence they end up sleeping in the streets. Therefore, they are exposed to many pollutants which increase the toxin levels in their nervous systems.
High toxin levels in the brain causes memory loss, loss of balance and circulation constraints. On the peripheral nervous systems, symptoms such as numbness, loss of sensation, and tingling are experienced. The toxin levels accumulate in high amounts hence making the body organs unable to detoxify it fully. This leads to damage of the nervous system.
Uncontrolled Body Weight
Alcoholism causes difficulties in ensuring a healthy body weight due to the high amount of calories contained in alcoholic drinks. Since it is addictive, more calories are added in to the body hence exceeding the rate at which the body burns them. Therefore, this causes continuous weight gain hence making the body unhealthy. However, this problem is mainly experienced by the wealthy people. The poor drug addicts on the other hand may have excessive weight loss. This is because most of them participate in hard manual work whereby they burn a lot of calories during their daily activities. The main problem which they face is loss of appetite (Parab, 2012). They do not have the required resources to enable them to enjoy the recommended foods in order to improve their appetite. When they report back to their daily activities, a lot of energy is required in order to perform their hard tasks which make them to rely on the calories obtained from alcohol only. Their health continues to deteriorate due to excessive loss of weight.
High Blood Pressure
Hypertension can be caused by many other factors though drug abuse is a major factor. It results due to direct pouring of adrenaline or drugs into the chambers of the heart. It results to rapid pumping of the heart hence causing blood in the veins and arteries to flow at relatively higher pressure than the normal range. There are many effects which may result due to high blood pressure including overworking of the heart. The cardiac muscles may also grow unpropotionally due to straining in some parts which have been greatly affected by the drugs. Some veins in the body are not able to sustain blood under high pressure hence they may burst.
Excessive weight gain also increases the resting heartbeat rate hence resulting to high blood pressure. In other cases, whereby drug addiction leaves no time for doing body exercises, it may also result to high blood pressure because of accumulation of a lot of fat in the body. Some of the fat particles may constrict blood vessels hence decreasing their diameter for passage of blood. This causes the blood to flow at high pressure.

Low Blood Pressure
Hypotension may be caused by dilation of blood vessels which makes the blood to flow at a lower pressure than the normal range. Some drugs have great impact on the blood vessels when abused, by increasing their diameter. This makes blood flow in some parts of the body to be inadequate hence leading to suffocation of body cells. The body becomes weak due to reduced supply of oxygen and other essential nutrients. The removal of metabolic waste also slows down hence leading to accumulation of toxins in the body. This poisons body cells thus causing many of them to die. Under serious conditions, death may occur since the body will be lacking enough energy to support its crucial processes.
Respiratory failure
It is mainly caused by abuse of drug through smoking or inhalation of fumes. Some drugs such marijuana can be taken through smoking which affects the lungs of the victim. Unfortunately, more danger is posed to the passive smokers than the active ones. A research conducted by the PA DUI Association shows that the active smokers inhale only a small percentage, 20%, of the harmful contents of the drugs while the passive smokers inhale 80% of the fumes. Smoking causes many dangers to the body including lung cancer.
The smokers are also likely to experience breathing problems due to coating of the respiratory organs by smoke particles. Other drugs such as heroine, whereby the addicts inhale the fumes produced after heating them, may cause inflammation to the respiratory organs. Drug addicts should be advised on the dangers of abusing these drugs since most of them cause permanent deformation to body organs which lead to failure in their functions (Parab, 2012). Moreover, once addicted, it becomes almost impossible to stop using these drugs since the body loses its natural ability to support various processes in providing adequate energy.
Conclusion
Drug abuse is caused by many factors which include; peer pressure, desperation, family problems, or even poverty levels. People start abusing them in order to stop thinking about the challenges the face in life. Other people are forced to become drug traffickers in order to earn a living.
Proper guidance should be given to such people in order to help them to focus on other beneficial activities in the society. In most cases, the youth are lured by wealthy people into the habit, whereby the influence their peers, hence ending up having a gang of drug addicts. Harsh disciplinary measures should be taken to such people and rehabilitation centers established to help those addicted to resume their normal life.
The reckless behavior of the drug addicts poses danger not only to their lives but also to the whole society at large since they cause insecurity by increasing the crime rates. This becomes a setback to the development of the society since the youths who should be relied upon for labor, get involved in abuse of drugs.
Drug traffickers do not spend time in consulting medical doctors about their health status hence becoming a threat in contracting diseases to other people around them. Therefore, people should be advised to seek medical assistance frequently in order to ensure diagnosis of any disease they might have contracted while in its early stages. Alternative ways of earning a living should also be introduced to the youths in order to help them to improve their living standards, and avoid drug trafficking.
