The Feminist Perception

According to Goodman (2010), the ancient feminist ideologies that considered women as being weaker than men have helped them to take good care of their bodies. Women have been keen to protect their bodies from any form of health risk due to the perception that they are not as strong as men to overcome life challenges. On the other hand, most men have continued to lead reckless lives due to the notion that they are not vulnerable like women. This perception shapes my thinking regarding the difference in behavior between men and women in the society. Women are always adhering to the recommended health precautions by their physicians and visit health clinics frequently for check-ups unlike men. They bear in mind that their weak bodies might not be able to fight against various infections hence failure to acquire medical consultation might expose them to critical health problems (Hewlett, 2012).
On the other hand, most men see visitation to medical clinics and seeking of medical consultation to be wastage of time (Richard, 2012). They believe that their immune system is superior and able to fight against many infections. This perception can be held responsible for triggering the multiple cases of ill-health, acquired disability, and mal-nutrition among men in the society. The case of women is different from that of men since they are always cautious to avoid any activities or life traits that might pose a threat to their health. Moreover, this feminist perception has also led to different interests of sports between men and women. Men are mostly interested in the most physical sports such as Rugby, American Football, and Cricket in order to prove how strong they are. Unlikely, women find fun in the sports than involve less physical contacts between the opponents such as Table Tennis and Lawn Tennis in order to protect their bodies from harm.

Scholarly Article Review

Part 1: Article Summary
According to Wright (2011), the Sesame Street developed a television show, which was premiered on the public broadcasting service, to test its effects to the young viewers. The show was developed after conducting more than one thousand experiments and studies, and also involving a research. The hypothesis of the research was that carelessly developed television shows affected the attention of young viewers and subjected them to poor cognitive and social behaviors. This impact prolonged even to their old ages hence affecting their families negatively. The researchers used two methods in testing the impact of the Sesame Street television show. The first method was a formative research that involved in-house investigation and laboratory-based tests in determining whether the show was attractive to young viewers.
The formative research utilized the concepts of behaviorism theory; which is a psychology movement that   provides reasons to various behaviors in the society. The researchers combined all the necessary recommendations which would make the show attract the attention of young viewers effectively. They performed studies on the earlier children shows that had been programmed in order to discover their faults and avoid them.
The second method of research was independent summative evaluation. This research was conducted by Educational Testing Service, and it was done over a significantly long duration within which the show was being aired. It was aimed at testing the educational impact of the show on the young viewers. The researchers invented attention testing tools for young viewers in order to monitor their change in behavior due to influence of the show. All the data collected during this research was analyzed by the researchers as the study progressed hence making the necessary recommendations to the producers on the areas which required improvement.
The research generated findings that the effectiveness of a television show to children did not depend on the expense incurred in the production. The researchers revealed that the segment entitled ‘The Man from Alphabet’ did not attract attention of most children despite its high expenses of production. However, the other segments scored above 85% in attractiveness to children within the fourth season of the show. It was also revealed that children learned effectively when actively engaged in singing or speaking the content of the show. Careful watching made them improve their mental ability hence performing well even in their academics. During the fifteenth episode, the academic performance of viewers and non-viewers was tested and compared. Few differences were noticed during this period. Another comparison was done three weeks later and revealed more differences in performance between the viewers and the non-viewers. However, it was discovered that the viewers could only remember few letters or words from the show. According to the multiple-intelligence theory, the producers were forced to change the show to encompass short films and animation in order to boost children comprehension on the single topics developed.
Part 2: Review
The researches were conducted comprehensively in order to test multiple aspects of children attention and also behavior influence due to television watching. However, there are several challenges that might have been incurred during the data collection process hence making the researchers compile biased data. Children do not like being subjected to tests hence when such an incidence occurs they get scared. They generate mental tension hence making them to forget most of the things they have learned. This aspect could have been an influential factor to the findings collected. Moreover, children are generally uncomfortable while interacting with strangers. The researchers were new to them, and they did not take adequate time to familiarize with the site of study. They also failed to involve one of the most conversant persons to the children in order to make them free while responding to the research questions.
Despite the few faults in the methodology of the research, there are three aspects that are inspiring about the research. First, it was conducted comprehensively while observing the faults which were made by the earlier children show producers and avoiding them. Its concepts were related to the already published theories such as behaviorism and multiple-intelligence in order to generate reasons behind various aspects noticed. Secondly, the independent summative evaluation was conducted over a long period. This aspect awarded the researchers a good opportunity to monitor change in performance by the viewers and compare the performance with that of the non-viewers. They were able to show a clear trend in performance difference between the participants hence convincing their audiences on the impact of television watching on children. Thirdly, the research was conducted by qualified persons who had adequate experience in the field. The formative research was conducted by Edward Palmer and Shalom Fisch; who had long-term experience in conducting child and development studies. On the other hand, the independent summative evaluation was conducted by experts from the Education Testing Service whose credibility was promising for a quality research.
The research implies that child development should be guided carefully since the content that young people get exposed to affects both their social and cognitive behavior. Its findings can be used by other children show producers for referencing regarding the most appropriate content to develop. The research holds a potential impact of revolutionizing the Children Entertainment Industry to become more educative and supportive to the societal welfare.

Website Critique and Journal

Highsocieteanj.com is a website that advertises on a beverage; tea that is offered to the high socioeconomic class people. This website targets the high income earners in the society as its primary audiences. Although it does not contain a subject statement to indicate that its major concern is the high income earners, its title indicates both its subject and purpose. The title specifies it to be advertising on a high-society tea house, and images of luxurious facilities portrayed on its homepage. The term “high societea” refers to service for the economically stable people who can afford luxuries in their lives. Therefore, they are the primary audiences of the website since the can afford the services being rendered.
However, despite targeting the high income earners who are associated with the urge for perfect sophistication and attractive presentations, the website contains a poor design. The developers of this website did put into to consideration the effective features of a good website design. Its homepage contains a lot of blank space which makes it to seem empty. An effective website design focuses on putting adequate content on the homepage which clearly portrays what is contained in it. The website is filled up with pictures on the homepage without providing an explanation about their origin or the main purpose of putting them there. There is no subject statement that states its main purpose hence making the audiences to rely on the suggestive terms in discovering its purpose. For instance, an interested audience would only rely on the term “tea house” within the website’s title in order to know that it is advertising about tea beverages that are being served within its outlets.
The website’s color scheme is effective since most of its colors rhyme. They provide adequate contrast that enables its audiences to view its contents clearly. This is an effective feature of its design that makes it to reveal all its contents to the viewers without being strenuous. Moreover, its letters have been written in a medium size font that makes them clearly visible and able to pass message effectively. The developers can also be congratulated for actively using images to portray the real picture of the tea outlets that are being advertised on website. Its homepage does not include unrelated advertisements hence enabling the viewers to gain confidence in exploring its contents. According to Nielsen (2001), a website design that involves excessive advertisements on unrelated contents discourages viewers from exploring its contents. They feel that they are being tricked to fall trap of scammers or malicious software hence avoiding further exploration.
Its homepage is also free from dead links. This aspect makes it able to cover most of its weaknesses hence proving the credibility of its developers to the audiences. Involvement of dead links in the homepage of any website makes the audiences to start doubting on whether the website’s content if often updated (Niederst, 2001). Therefore, they fear they may spend much of their time view content that talks about non-existing facilities or services. The developers also made it free from blue links which in most cases are placed near the main topics or at strategic positions within the website that may cause the viewer to click them accidentally. The blues links direct the viewers to useless or remote pages hence making them to feel that exploring the website content is simply wastage of time.  Its audiences are made sure that all the links which are available on the website would direct them to the required content hence being willing to spend more time examining the advertisement.
The website also contains appropriate graphics that fit well on the screen. They have alt labels and free from extremely large thumbnail images. All the graphics which are included are meaningful and do not take a lot of time to load. Macotte (2010) says that websites that contain meaningless graphics or ones which take long time to load discourage viewers from viewing much of its content. The Internet community is aware that there are very many related contents within the websites hence there is no need of wasting time exploring unresponsive websites or the ones that contain meaningless graphics. Bearing in mind the effect of this fact, developers of societeanj.com included responsive graphics that hold a meaning concerning the website’s content hence making it worthy to be viewed by its audiences.
Despite the several good website design features that have been included on the website, they are not effective enough to make it to be regarded as having an overall good design.  The website does not exercise continuous styling within its homepage. Different styles of text formatting have been used. For instance, its title is not italicized as its content within the bottom part of the homepage. A different font type has been used for its title from the one used to structure the rest of its contents. The developers can be termed to have had worked too hard to make the website different from others hence failing to observe the concepts of a good website design. A good design should have a continuous styling which makes it to seem official and worthy to be viewed by its primary audiences. According to Niederst (2001), Internet users depend on simple aspects in determining whether a website is worthy exploring or not. For instance, excessive use of different formatting and font styles make them to doubt the credibility of its developers. The experienced website developers do not spend much of their time making unnecessary decorations in order to improve the attractiveness of the websites. They depend on effective arrangement of content, proper color schemes and useful links to make the websites unique from others and attractive to explorations. Moreover, most Internet users bear in mind that the companies that can afford to hire well qualified developers to design their websites, value their contents and see it to be worthy advertising. This notion makes them to use the design features in determining whether the website’s content is worthy viewing or not.
The website also lacks personality. The developers did not consider incorporating explanative sections on the website which explain deeply about its content and purpose hence failing to elude a sense of self. Its homepage is comprised of information that is too general to make it convincing to its primary audiences. A good website design includes various sections that explain about the websites content deeply hence making the viewers to notice the uniqueness of its advertisements. Internet users access different websites in order to obtain specific pieces of information. Therefore, if they fail to notice relevant sections which would guide them towards the interested content, they get discouraged from continue to view its content. Developers of highsocieteanj.com should have paid attention on including specific sections which describe the unique services which are offered by the outlets being advertised.
For any website design to be effective it should be convincing to the viewers and directive in making them discover its uniqueness from the other websites. It should exercise comprehensive description of the websites content within its homepage without making it excessively crowded (Oleksy, 2001). Moreover, images should be used to provide supplementary information about the content being described. They should not be relied upon entirely to explain the website’s content as it was done by developers of highsocieteanj.com.
Conclusion
There are several features which can be relied upon in judging whether a particular website contains a good or bad design. The homepage of any website contains the most crucial aspects of design that guides viewers in making decisions on whether to continue exploring its content or not. Therefore, it should be developed carefully encompassing all the most important sections that explain its purpose and awards it a sense of personality.
Highsocieteanj.com contains ineffective website design although there are certain good features which were included by its developers. The website is free from unresponsive graphics, and blue or dead links which might make the viewers to get discouraged from continuing to view its content. However, its design is made poor by several features which include; too much blank space on the homepage, lack of personality, and lack of continuous styling.

Website Journal
Highsocieteanj.com was established with the main aim of advertising tea beverages that are offered by the company’s tearooms located in 20 Old Newark Pompton Turnpike. This location can be described as an historical township of Wayne. These tearooms can date their origin back to the year 1895. The website explains about their existence and gives customers information about the services render, and the exact directions which would lead them to the outlets. It also contains information about the series of events which have taken place since establishment of the tearooms and the development which has been experienced.
The website uses a formal tone entirely to present information about the services which are being advertised. However, it does not make full utilization of its homepage to describe about the major sections encompassed by its content. Audiences are forced to make persisted efforts in clicking several links before tracing the necessary information of their interest. This aspect is among the several features that impair information relying to the audiences hence making its design to be poor.
However, despite the weakness of the website which include; improper styling, emptiness of its homepage, and lack of personality, the website contains some strengths which make its content worthy viewing. Content within the homepage has been effectively arranged and proper color scheme used hence making it easily viewable. Texts have also been written using a medium size font that makes the audiences to read them without straining.

Website Design

Karimmetwaly.com is an artistic website that presents the acting portfolio of an actor named Karim Metwaly. The primary audiences of this website are the fans of the named actor. The website presents a biography of the actor that explains about the start of his acting career and the achievements he has gained so far. This information is only relevant to people who are interested in knowing more about his life, acting collections, and his entire history in his career. The people with such interests would be definitely his fans.
The website has several features which makes its design to be poor. First, the homepage contains many pictures without involving adequate descriptive information concerning its content. Suffer (2011) argues that good website design should focus majorly on developing meaning of its content rather than being obsessed with inducing attractiveness. Therefore, the developers of this website should have awarded attention towards including various sections which would depict the sense of creating it. They were obsessed with portraying the attractive pictures of the actor without explaining to the audiences the reason behind displaying them.
The greatest portion of the homepage has been occupied by pictures hence making it to seem more of a photo gallery than an advertisement website. The audiences will be forced to spend much of their time viewing attractive photos of the actor before discovering the necessity of seeing them. The content within the homepage does not support the website’s subject statement. The subject statement indicates “acting portfolio” while the content within the homepage is general photo gallery of the actor without providing a relation between the photos and his acting events. The developers should have included sections indicating when and where the pictures were taken in order to explain to the audiences the reason behind publishing them on the website. The viewers are forced to compare them in order to discover that they might have been taken on different occasions hence associating them to the different series of events he has been participating in. This is an ineffective quality of a website design according to Luppa (2001). He explains that a good website design should be the one that is able to rely on certain pieces of information to the audiences without being too demanding in terms of mental activity. The audiences should be able to understand the content being displayed without thinking too much.
The homepage of this website also contains large blank space which makes it to look empty. This aspect discourages viewers from continuing to examine its content since they develop a feeling of securing low benefit from the content being displayed. The homepage should be rich in meaningful information which is of interest to the audiences in order to motivate them to spend adequate time viewing it. Kolko (2011) insists that the homepage should be developed with comprehensive information which is displayed in an organized manner in order to winning user confidence in accessing the content. However, websites that contain rather empty homepages discourage audiences from exploring their content due to the feeling that they are underdeveloped.
On the bottom part of the homepage there is a section that contains excessively large graphic that cannot be loaded by a normal browser. This graphic makes the browser to display a timeout message which indicates that “the connection was reset”. A good website design involves graphics with medium size thumbnails that can easily be loaded by a normal browser. This feature indicates that the website content is only limited to some audiences since the ones using normal browser are not able to view its content fully. The developers of karimmetwaly.com should have emphasized on ensuring that all links and graphics within the homepage are responsive. They should all contain labels are be able to load in order to display the required content to the users.
The website also experiences poor arrangement of content within the homepage. Although the greatest portion is comprised of photos, they are not arranged in a good manner that would make it to be presentable. The photos have not been aligned in a continuous form although the developers attempted to copy the function of a photo grid. There is a space left on the second row which can fit two of the photos placed within the successive rows. This makes the content to seem disorganized hence triggering the audiences to develop doubts concerning the website’s credibility. According to Pedersen (2001), an effective website design should be the one that proves credibility of the website right from the homepage. The Internet users are aware that most qualified web designer put emphases on developing a presentable website that contains attractive arrangement of content right from its homepage.
However, the website design cannot be claimed to be entirely poor since it encompasses several good features. For instance, the developers observed a continuous styling which is necessary for developing effective websites. The same font type has been used for all major sections of the website hence making it appealing. A good color scheme has also been observed throughout all sections of the website which makes able to display all contents to the viewers without straining. The developers avoided leaving excessive white space on the homepage which would have aggravated the sense of low quality by its audiences. The white background was substituted with a black one hence reducing the ability of most audiences to notice that the homepage contains little content.
Moreover, all its content has been written in a medium size font that is able to be easily read by the audiences. This feature enables them to easily spot the major sections of interest and obtain the necessary information without straining. According to Perker (2004), websites that contain too small font sized letter discourage the audiences from exploring their contents. The Internet community is prone to harm from malicious software or unfriendly terms of service. Therefore, the users are keen to monitor any suspicious content that might be a potential threat to their welfare hence avoiding it. The small font sized letters are associated with contents that are not aimed at being discovered by the audiences hence making them discouraged from continuing exploring them.
The website is free from unnecessary advertisements that might be drawing references to external sources irrelevant to the website’s content. All the links which are involved within the website direct users to meaningful sites that contain information about Karim Matwaly. It is also free from dead links. These are non-functioning links which reference themselves or unrelated to any particular webpage. The developers made sure that all links within the website are functioning hence winning user confidence to some extent.
Never the less, karimmetwaly.com has used a formal tone unlike most artistic websites. The language used to explain about the biography of the actor and the various events in which he has participated in is respectful. Although some sections have employed used on informal tone, it is not offensive but aimed at inducing fun.
Conclusion
The difference between a good and a bad website design is its effectiveness in passing the intended message to the viewers. A good website design involves effective features such as responsive graphics, functional links, proper color scheme, and a good arrangement of its content. On the other hand, a bad website design does not observe such features hence most of its content might be disarranged, texts written in too small font sizes, unresponsive graphics, excessive advertisements, and dead or blue links.
Karimmetwaly.com contains some good features in its web design although there are several aspects that make it poor. The developers paid attention towards involving functional links and eliminated irrelevant contents from the website. They also maintained continuous styling which makes the website rather appealing. However, its homepage contains large percentage of blank space that generates the sense of emptiness on its audiences. The developers also failed to include adequate descriptive content within the homepage that explains about its purpose. The content within the homepage is also disarranged. A grid system should have been used in aligning the content in order to make it more appealing. These aspects make its design not to be good enough to be described as being effective in displaying the website content.

Website Journal
Karimmetwaly.com was established in 2013 to present a biography of an actor named Karim Metwaly also present a series of different events in which he was involved. The website traces origin of Karim’s discovery on his acting talent to the age of 7. It succeeds in explaining the driving forces that triggered the actor to venture in his career; which is an interesting piece of information to his funs. The website documents series of thrilling events which were made successful by his contributions hence portraying his prominence in the acting industry.
Both formal and informal tones have been used to present the biography of the actor and historical occurrences which have been experienced in his career. Each piece of information is presented to leave the reader in suspense hence aggravating the urge to continuing reading the other successive pieces. The informal tone has basically been associated with the amusing performance of the actor rather than being offensive to the readers.
The website has got several strengths which makes its audiences willing to explore its content despite the ineffective features which have been included in its design. It displays attractive images of the actor which creates the urge of the audiences to read more about the occasions in which they were taken. They are forced to follow the links directing them to the actor’s events in order to obtain answers to their questions. However, it also contains some weaknesses in that all important content about the life history of the actor is not presented. It also fails to involve adequate links which would enable audiences to navigate through its contents effectively.
