In a World that Seeks Freedom of Speech, Censorship Should be abolished
Introduction
            Censorship is a necessary tool in ensuring that proper communication channels are followed within a society. Therefore, authorities in every state should be allowed to determine the information which should be passed to the public concerning any crucial decisions they make. A society which does not practice censorship is likely to be faced by frequent conflicts between the members of the public and the authorities. This would result due to incorrect information which might be passed to the general public by unauthorized persons about crucial decisions made by the government. It may also be used as a tool for campaigning by the political elites through providing of misleading information which favors them. This would interfere with the development projects within the society since members of the public would lose trust in their leaders. Though elimination of censorship may provide the members of the public with opportunities to criticize the government, it will deny them a chance of knowing the true information about their leaders. Therefore, this motion develops different opinions about the importance of censorship within the society. Would abolishment of censorship bring more benefits than disadvantages to the society?
            Censorship cautions the public against spreading information based on rumors which may be aimed at intimidating the body in power. Therefore, censorship should not be abolished since it helps in ensuring;
1.      Respect to the Authorities
            The authorities should be allowed to choose the information which should be passed to the members of the public. This will ensure that there is no confusion arising from provision of different news about a particular decision undertaken by the governing body. If the members of the public are allowed to access any information from the authorities, people will provide different reports hence creating confusion among the receivers. This will lead the citizens to start doubting the methods of governance which are used by their leaders. Political rivals may also use the information provided to criticize the governing body in order to lure the members of the public to consider electing them in future elections. This gives the governing body a hard time in conducting development projects in the society since the members of the public will have lost trust in them. The regulation of information within a state ensures that each citizen receives the most relevant information. This helps in avoiding chaos which may arise due to improper communication methods. For instance, a senior government officer may instruct another junior officer to investigate the performance of a certain ordinary worker. If censorship is not applied to ensure that the information is not spread to other irrelevant parties, it may end up alerting the ordinary worker. This would result into misunderstandings between the concerned parties hence affecting the smooth running of the activities of the state. It may also result to betrayal by the targeted ordinary worker in order to revenge the actions of the senior officers.  If information is communicated to the relevant individuals, there will be no chaos arising hence each person will respect his or her profession and be loyal to governing body.
2.      Reduction of Crime Rates
            Insecurity within a state may be caused by disagreements between the governing body and other members of the public. For instance, a group of people may not be happy with a certain decision made by the body in power hence decide to push for amendment of the decision. However, the governing body may not be interested in making any changes concerning the decision they had made hence causing conflict between the two parties. This may lead the government to use its forces to manipulate the rebels to agree with its decisions. If the rebels are not ready to comply with the terms of the government, insecurity may arise due to the conflict. The rebels may choose to attack the government officers and other concerned individuals in order to push for consideration of their views. The cause of conflict might have been communication of the wrong information by unauthorized persons. Therefore, censorship is necessary since it ensures that information is communicated by the authorized people and it is being passed to the relevant people hence avoiding misunderstandings. It also ensures that every person gets a chance to understand the message clearly since there is no propaganda which is being spread by malicious people. It also eliminates the possibility of members of the public being incited by the political elites to protest against certain decisions made by the governing body since they are given a chance to explore both the benefits and disadvantages of the decisions. Censorship would also make the decision making process within a state easier since it ensures proper consultation of different departments and individuals. In order to achieve a good decision, the opinions of each party should be considered and respected. However, during making of crucial decisions which affect the entire state, a different body from the ones making the contribution of opinions may be introduced to analyze the views presented. At this stage, censorship should be applied in order to prevent information from leaking to irrelevant parties. This makes the decision making process simple since after analyzing the opinions, the best decision will be arrived at without complains from the parties which were involved in contribution of the ideas. However, if the process is interfered with and information leaks to irrelevant parties, there will be complains concerning the whole process. This may lead to forming of rebel groups to demonstrate against the decisions made hence increasing insecurity within the area. Therefore, regulation of information communication is important since it ensures that decisions are arrived at without chaos. It also ensures protection of children in order to provide a good environment for them to grow. Frequent conflicts affect the children psychologically hence hindering proper development of their brains. This makes them to develop fear and shyness which may affect them in the rest of their lives. It also exposes them to unlawful practices which may influence them to become criminals when they mature.
3.      Elimination of Ethnic Conflicts
            Ethnic conflicts are mostly initiated by the political elites who manipulate the members of their ethnic groups to fight against other ethnic groups. For instance, a political leader may communicate misleading information to the members of his or her ethnic group that the government has planned to discriminate their members since most of them are illiterate. It becomes very easy for the members of that ethnic group to believe what they have been told because they trust their and respect their political leaders. Though the information communicated was incorrect, it would cause misunderstanding in the society hence leading to opposition of the governing body by the ethnic group which had been misled. However, if censorship is applied, the political elites will not have a chance to mislead the members of the public since communication of such information will make them to be punished according to the law. This will reduce ethnic conflicts and ensure harmony within the state. The members of the state will have a chance to work together regardless of their ethnic backgrounds hence improving the economy of the state. Good information communication methods should be followed in order to ensure that there is respect to the authorities and peace in the society. This attracts foreign investors to the state due to improved security and provision of ready market from the locals. Therefore, the state develops good relationship with other states which may lead to signing of trade agreements hence improving its economy. It also enables a particular nation especially the developing ones to receive aid and grants from other developed states which can be used for funding development projects.  However, if censorship is not applied, the state will be faced by constant disagreements between its members hence leading to insecurity. This will discourage foreign investors from visiting the nation hence diminishing the international relationships. Therefore, the state faces difficulties in conducting development projects due to insufficient funds.
Conclusion
            Though freedom of speech in every state is necessary, crucial information should be communicated by the relevant parties based on facts. In case of misunderstandings, the concerned party should be held responsible for clarification of the ambiguous information. The other parties should seek explanation from the source of the information and not from other people who pretend to be aware of the matter being addressed.
            The aim of censorship is not to limit the members of the public from receiving the information that they are interested in knowing about their state. It will help them to know the facts about different issues happening within their nation and also eliminate the confusion which may be caused by different interpretations from different unauthorized persons.
            In order to ensure smooth running of activities of a state, censorship should be applied. This will also increase the loyalty of the people to the governing body hence reducing cases of rebellion by members of some groups in the society.
